A few days ago one of our members of parliament was sentenced in the Supreme Court, to 6 years imprisonment for numerous cases of fraud. Over a very long period of time he had been taking advantage of his position in government by using large sums of taxpayers' money to make great monetary gains for himself. Immediately the sentence was passed there were loud screams of defiance from his followers, insisting that he shouldn't have been imprisoned.
Here are my thoughts on the matter:
It is well known that the truth usually comes out in the end. Any lighter sentence would have suggested undeserved support for such a deceitful person. Though he has been sentenced to a six year jail term, he will probably serve only a fraction of that time. For years he has been receiving a very high salary for holding a very trustworthy position. Though he is disgraced and no longer a member of parliament, he will continue to receive at the taxpayers' expense, the many costly member of parliament entitlements for the rest of his life. That is that we should all be complaining about.
Fair enough?

As I understand it drug traffickers and fraudsters, indeed any criminal who lives off the proceeds of their crimes, once found guilty have it all taken away from them. Why should an MP be treated any differently? They too should have everything they have gained financially through their fraud taken away from them.
