A certain bet.
Andy was a certain winner the Wimbledon Mens Singles semi-final today.
Andy Murray(UK) played Andy Roddick(USA)
Wondering if the same first name players have played in semi-finals or finals before at Wimbledon.
Any idea?

I didn't expect you to with you being so busy with your work. However, thank you for taking time to
comment.
Hi Skip, thank you so much for the get well wishes, very much appreciated!
Hope you and Pam are well!
Hugs, Kelly xxxxx
No problem. Our pleasure to wish you well.
No idea hun! i watched last nights match though where Andy Roddick(USA) beat Andy Murray(UK) .. was well tense!! xx
Once again we share another interest. I watched both mens semi-finals in addition to the quarter finals - not the ladies because of all the screaming and the grunting - very unlady like!
Because of the time difference we don't see the tennis till after midnight so I record and watch later in the day. It is a very rare free viewing of live sport in NZ, so I always make the very best of your Wimbledon.
I shall record both finals of course - no discrimination whatsoever!
With the 'ladies' the sound will be muted. Do you blame me? lol
I hate all the grunting too! So distracting - it's about time it was banned!
Before the tournament the officials said that something would be done about it. Obviously there wasn't.
There should be only one warning per player and there after a point given to the opposition for each loud squeal or grunt or any other distracting outburst.
I still think it should be banned completely - after all they would all be in the same boat (so to speak)
Agreed '.........in the same boat'
With a tennis net of course rather than a fishing net.
The Men's final was a great match. A pity that Roddick tired towards the end. He put up a great fight against the world's best ever tennis player, who appeared to be as fresh when he finished as when he began.
Wimbledon Finals
Women's Singles
1929, 1932, 1935 and 1938 Helen Wills(-Moody) vs Helen Jacobs
Men's Doubles
1884 Ernest Renshaw vs Ernest Lewis
1982 Peter McNamara vs Peter Fleming
2007 Michael Llodra vs Mike Bryan
Women's Doubles
1934 Dorothy Round vs Dorothy Shepherd-Barron
Thank you for your research and for posting me such interesting information.
I wonder if the situation is even more interesting if players with the same surnames are playing eg Williams/Williams and Ryan/Ryan.
You may find time to check this link.

Leaving aside the Williams sisters, these are the same surname singles finalists
Men
1883 W.C. Renshaw (BRI) J.E. Renshaw (BRI)
1882 W.C. Renshaw (BRI) J.E. Renshaw (BRI)
1889 W.C. Renshaw (BRI) J.E. Renshaw (BRI)
1898 R.F. Doherty (BRI) H.L. Doherty (BRI)
Women
1884 Miss M.E.E. Watson (BRI) Miss L.M. Watson (BRI)
but, of course there have been a lot of sibling players especially in the doubles, but usually one far outclassed the other as a singles player so if they met in tournaments it would be in the earlier rounds.
Amazing! I found it very difficult even watching TV to be sure which Williams was which Williams. Imagine when the only broadcasting was by radio. Of course in those days people were much more friendly and certainly more understanding. Any problem was no doubt easily overcome.
You will have noted that these people pre-date radio, but my guess is that scores will have been given out in correct form e.g. Miss Watson for the older sister and Miss Louise Watson for the younger, while the men will have had their names given out as W C Renshaw and J E Renshaw.
Have you checked out Anthony Wilding 1910 -1913?
Yes.
