The pessimist. Being aware that something is approaching the end allows you to plan for the future.

It makes no difference: there is the same amount of liquid remaining whether you are optimistic or pessimistic. Realism is the way to go.

    A bit of both, to be honest.
    
    Being hopeful is good, as long as it doesn't move too far towards expectation.
    
    Planning for what to do in case of failure is also good, again as long as it doesn't move too far towards expectation.

I know I am sometimes too pessimistic so my glass is usually half empty rather than half full!

My line is usually 'Which cheeky sod has pinched half my drink?' (when I know perfectly well I've drunk it myself!)
