What is your impression?

For many years I was a very keen participant in a number of sports and until recent years I followed world sport with great enthusiasm.

However, things have changed mainly due to the the smothering of sport for sport's sake with the evil spread of professionalism - money money money! In this part of the world we used to enjoy uninterrupted sports telecasts and radio broadcasts, but today all are frequently interrrupted often at the most inappropriate moment, with long periods of rowdy advertising.

Of course sportsmanship is something of the past. In world tennis today the throwing of racquets, the angry hitting of tennis balls far out of bounds, the threatening waving of fists, plus insulting language are sadly the in thing.

No need to go into detail about crowd riots, along with fighting and stabbing as we all see that on TV far too often.

I fail to see how any normal person today can be enthusiastic about what used to be sport for sport's sake.

No advertising on the BBC, and in many sports the women's game is less well paid/still mainly amateur, and much better behaved.

That is true, though recently I saw world's ex number 1 ladies tennis player throw her racquet to the ground in a fit of rage. A few are beginning to raise their closed fists, showing their lack of modesty.

I love watching snooker - a very under-rated sport, most people think its boring and a waste of time. I think its therapeutic to watch and a good wholesome sport.

I like your choice. I used to enjoy playing lots of snooker, billiards, and pool.

try watching swimming - if you can ever find it on tv, no violence, no money, just a huge amount of hard work and no doubts or arguments about the winner - whoever touches the pad first gets it. easy. lol.

Yes, swimming is more sporting than others. It's a pity that in major events the winners often become over jubliant with their successes leaving doubt about their modesty, a vital part of sportsmanship.
