Some who have a very large number of ' friends ' listed receive far fewer comments than many who have just a few friends listed
Maybe few friends are true friends

The ' friends ' set-up here has been condemned by many but still it drags on.
Some have been fed up with request after request from too many only interested in building their ego with a big score. Over a year ago one came here pleading for friends. When she gathered over 400 she slowed down and has only appeared once or twice since in over a year- no explanation !
Stay here long enough and you might become aware not of head-hunters but number-hunters. Some of us regularly do a little culling to get rid of those who show no signs of blogging or commenting, in fact wasting our time.
It's always good to know who your friends really are.

Absolutely true! And I have been wondering too if some bloggers have a competition of sorts going on over who has the most blog friends.
But sometimes it's just not possible to leave a comment, at least not for me, I simply don't know what to say - yet I really enjoy reading the person's blog. I have three such blog friends. Hope they won't delete me from their friends list...
It's great to see that we have similar thoughts about what is going on in this world where selfishness and greed appear to be the ' in ' thing.

I don't find that surprising as I'm sure that they don't invite them all with the expectation of also getting lots of comments.
Like you I keep the numbers of friends small. I read all their blogs and usually comment on entries.
Why condemned and what would you do instead? Surely it's a bloggers choice to both invite friends and accept/refuse invitations.
